Building Your Own AR (Part 1)

Welcome to The Firearms Creed! Today, we will be starting the topic of building your own AR. This will be an ongoing discussion, and for the sake of this we will assume you want an all-purpose, go-to war rifle.

The most common area to start a build is the lower receiver. The lower receiver is fairly important. Of course, you can always go with a standard mil-spec lower. But before you snag that $39.99 Anderson lower deal, there is something you should consider: quality control. Quality control is mainly important for tolerances and strength. You don't have to go all out and buy a Knights Armament for the tightest tolerances. You can easily choose other brands like BCM, Aero, or even PSA. Do your research and buy what fits your standards and budget.

Once you choose your lower receiver, the next step is deciding on your lower parts kit. Remember, most AR parts are completely interchangeable. Just make sure to read and see if you need any proprietary parts when buying. My recommendation, as before, is to look at reliable and tested brands. Daniel Defense has affordable parts kits, along with Geissele. Consider sticking to companies that hold military contracts, as they usually maintain a certain standard for quality control.

Overall, the responsibility is yours to do the research and find the parts that fit your standards and budget.

Thanks, and we'll see you next time!
