Building Your Own AR (Part 2)
Welcome to The Firearms Creed! Today, we'll talk about building your own AR. Let's dive in!
So now you have your lower receiver chosen and your lower parts kit, next would be choosing your buffer tube, spring, and the buffer weight. This seems like it would be a part that you could just buy any decent one and move on, you certainly in most circumstances can do that. There are also other options to consider; heavier buffer weights can reduce felt recoil and reduce cyclic rate, but a lighter buffer will increase felt recoil and increased cyclic rate. However, this is all tunable with testing different variations.
There's just a couple more things and you'll have a complete lower. Finding a grip and a stock that suits you. These are usually just a matter of preference on grip angles and deciding on polymer or rubberized. Magpul is the most notorious, but companies like Hogue make great products too. Sometimes finding furniture that has multi-purpose, such as stocks that hold extra batteries for weapon lights or optics, or grips that hold oil for your gun.
Once you have all of these parts chosen, you will have a complete lower receiver. Of course, you can always upgrade parts such as triggers. Geissele has probably the most battle-tested and proven, but there are plenty of great companies that have drop-in triggers if you find something that suits your needs better.
Thanks, we will see you next time!
